This document explains how to install and configure the Intel® MPI Library for Windows* OS product. Installation is a multi-step process. Read this document in its entirety before beginning, and follow the steps in sequence. For information about the product contents, including new and changed features, refer to the separate Release Notes.
Before installing the Intel® MPI Library, you should check the Intel® Registration Center to see if a newer version or update is available. The version on CD or as listed in your electronic download license letter may not be the most current.
To install the Intel® MPI Library, you need to use an account that is a member of the Administrators privilege group. Any normal account with users, debugger users or higher user privilege can use the Intel® MPI Library.
You need to unistall the previous version of the Intel® MPI Library (if it is installed).
Note: (SDK) The default installation directory
for the Intel® MPI Library <version> is
C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\MPI\<version>.<package_num> for the Intel® 64 architecture.
C:\Program Files\Intel\MPI\<version>.<package_num>
for the IA-32 architecture.
Note: (RTO) The default installation directory
for the Intel® MPI Library <version> is
C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\MPI-RT\<version>.<package_num> for the Intel® 64 architecture.

To install the Intel® MPI Library on Windows* OS, do the following:
The Intel® MPI Library installer has a silent installation mode that helps you to install the Intel MPI Library on clusters with many nodes. Do the following to install the Intel® MPI Library on Microsoft* Windows* CCS 2003, Microsoft* Windows* HPC Server 2008, Microsoft* Windows* XP or Microsoft* Windows Vista* based cluster:
On Microsoft* Windows* CCS 2003 and Microsoft* Windows* HPC Server 2008 based cluster, the installer installs all the Intel® MPI Library components on all compute nodes in addition to the head node. On Microsoft* Windows* XP and Microsoft* Windows Vista* based cluster, you need to repeat steps 2-5 on each compute node. The default installation location is C:\Program Files(x86)\Intel\MPI\<version> (SDK), C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\MPI-RT\<version> (RTO) on the Intel® 64 based systems or C:\Program Files\Intel\MPI\<version> (SDK), C:\Program Files\Intel\MPI-RT\<version> (RTO) on the IA-32 based systems.
The installer on Windows* OS performs Active Directory* setup required for the domain-based authorization with the delegation ability. The domain administrator rights are required, otherwise this setup will not be performed. See the Intel® MPI Library Reference Manual for more information.
To uninstall the Intel® MPI Library, select Add or Remove Programs from the Control Panel.
Note: Uninstalling the Intel® MPI Library does not delete the corresponding license file.
